It was scientifically proven by researchers at the Lesgaft Physical Culture Institute in Leningrad that KBs increased strength, endurance, work capacity and balance. Soon, even The Red Army adopted the Kettlebell as a necessary tool; every military unit’s gym was stocked with K-bells. Spetznaz, or the Soviet Special Operations, also uses the Kettlebell to increase strength, agility and stamina.
Today, the Kettlebell is a multi-purpose, state-of-the-art piece of equipment that is used not only in weightlifting, but in other sports as well. It can even develop one’s ability to withstand ballistic shocks, helping one strengthen their own ligaments and tendons. Now, most athletes cannot do without the Kettlebell, whether they are kickboxers, wrestlers or football players. The rough sports require Kettlebell training, which even helps one lose fat from the high metabolic cost. KB workouts are considered the most efficient workouts around, and thanks to the large variety of exercises and lifts, it is easy to find a regime that fits one’s own lifestyle.
No one foresaw the popularity of the Kettlebell, which can now be found in gyms worldwide. In its home country, Russia, it is considered a classic exercise tool. Kettlebell throwing is also still a popular form of competition. Despite being such a simple tool, the K-bell is one of the only devices that can build so many aspects – such as strength, flexibility and endurance – simultaneously. In Russian, it is referred to as a ‘girya’. Having designed the perfect soldiers, the greatest athletes and the most successful champions, one cannot help but take Kettlebells, and their extremely unique history, seriously. They aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon.
